Well, today’s a special day, and you what today is! (At the start of writing this a day before to this post’s date) lol
It’s POKEMON DAY!!! (Belated) Not only that, it’s the 25th ANNIVERSARY of Pokemon!!
Well, happy (Belated) Pokemon Day and we hope to have a great day today, and I will explain my experiences of why the Pokemon Fandom is my favorite fandom!
The beginning:
Before 2005, I rarely got into Pokemon, but was neutral to it. I only first heard of it in 2002, likely when Cartoon Network announced its broadcast there when I was 8. My family claimed I saw the first episode with my older sister when it first came out. I remember playing Pokemon in school once, because one teacher had it in her closet. A gameboy color with Pokemon, mostly gen 1, and I tried playing it, but I didn’t know what to do. I was busy walking in the route below Cerulean City, and wow, I didn’t how moves work. XD That was in 2002 after a big test and we get to relax. A year later, I remember I played Starcraft maps that are Pokemon related. I remember I tried seeing it from Cartoon Network, but I couldn’t see it, because it came on at 9PM, the time I was supposed to sleep at the time, and I didn’t know they air it on Kids WB or heard of that block. So in late 2004, I was going on a field trip, and I sit with my best friend, who was playing Crystal on his gameboy advance. He let me play it, and I remember surfing at I believe at the four islands between Cianwood City and Olivine City. All I did was surf and use thunderbolt on Tentacools with Pikachu. My best friend told me to use thunderbolt. That moment was just a boost before I really got into Pokemon, so I didn’t have any interest yet. I didn’t have a gameboy advance or a game console yet. I only played games on my personal PC I got since I was 7. And yes, I know how to use windows since I was 5 or 6. LOL
The start of Pokemon:
I did get Gameboy Advance in Christmas 2004 (Standard indigo one) and I only got Sonic X video gamepak. No games yet. I did get eventually few more games coming. In New Years Day 2005, at night, when my cousin was sleeping with us around the time, she and my younger sister found my older sister’s Gameboy Color, which has Pokemon Red in it! I saw my younger sister play it, and so I took a look at it, and remember how the game was played from the field trip. Since we have it, and having few Gameboy Games on our hands, it was just the beginning. We tried figuring out how the game works on our own for months while cycling other games to play on too. Well, one day, we had former friends who we hang with for a while, and we let them borrow few of our games. It was a bad idea because they had a little sister who takes them and get them lost. Pokemon Red was one of them, and having friends borrowing games was a bad idea, at least for me. They quickly found all the games but Pokemon Red, which took a week to find, and around the time before my birthday came, and they give it to me, and I finally was waiting to play it. Wow! It’s epic. A day later when it was my birthday, they give me Pokemon Pinball Ruby and Sapphire as a present, saying they found the game randomly in their house. So I played both games and had fun with it. Playing Red since then was my first true experience of playing Pokemon from start to finish, and it took me about a week or more to finish the game, after the league. That was the greatest start I had with Pokemon since that whole walkthrough introduced me to every main part of Pokemon games as a whole. Despite being in 2005 when Gen 3 was relevant, I started with Kanto, so it makes me look like I grew up in late 90s Pokemon if that makes sense. Well, a month later, I saw two random kids in the playground next to my house, playing Pokemon Yellow. I took a look at it, and wow, I didn’t even know they have Pikachu game. Well, I asked my parents to get Yellow for me, from ebay, and it took few days to arrive, and I got Yellow, and played Kanto all over again. My younger sister was curious how fun was Pokemon games, and she wants to play it. I give her Pokemon Red and let her start over the game. Yeah, anytime I play anyone’s Pokemon game, they always tell me, don’t start a new save. XD And makes sense, since there’s only one save file. In this case, I just let my sister start fresh, and she played it well just as good as I was. She played Red on my older sister’s GBC while I played Yellow on my GBA. We started watching Pokemon normally in March or April on Kids WB. We saw Johto League reruns on weekdays just after coming home from school, and Advance Challenge in Saturdays as new episodes. Later in July, I got Emerald, but a story. Well, I wanted to get it. We went to Best Buy to get Emerald, but there was no copies, so we had to wait for a few days. We went back again, and luckily, we got the last copy that day, and so me and my sister have been playing it. Well, while we had a little fuss about who gets to play it, we mostly had fun playing it. I remember we tried catching all Pokemon and finding hidden items. I also battled with my best friend with GBA link cables a few times, and also trade. Not only that, my first Pokemon movie was Destiny Deoxys when it first aired in Cartoon Network. I saw Jirachi, Heroes, Mewtwo, and Power of One in 2005. I saw the last two when I was in Costa Rica vacation, and also saw Chronicles, something I was unfamiliar with. Not only I got my sister get into Pokemon, but our friends we hang with at the playground, different kids outside the Yellow Version discovery, I also got them into Pokemon, and they became fans.
Funniest Pokemon Dream:
In October 2005, I had a dream involving Brawly and May, dating, and well, May farted on the date for five seconds, and it was done in a funny way and that was pretty odd but funny dream, and the fact that it was Brawly and May dating at Lumiose City lookalike. Here’s more about it here:

Pokemon Internet discovery and being a bigger fan:
In 2006 at February, I found a couple of Pokemon fan websites like Pokemon Palace Network, and Pokemon-Safari (Castilian Spanish) and I found out that Japan airs much newer episode and we were a year behind, due to time of translating. From there, that’s when I really mastered internet usage like so much!! All about Pokemon!! Not only that, but I also got Emulators around the time and played more Pokemon games I wasn’t able to get, and wow, that was a fun moment. I experienced Gen 2 and I wanted to play Crystal. I also got FireRed on GBA on my birthday 2006 when I became 12. It was a fun game. I liked FRLG, and also my sister got LeafGreen before I got FireRed. Well, I feel like I became a much bigger Pokemon fan around 2006, and told everything about it to my best friend, when he had no internet at home. I also discovered fan stuff like fan made cities with Pokemon Gen 3 Sprites and background, was called FakeTown in Neoseekers. I also found fanarts too. And as of sexual photos or fanart kissing, I said “Ewwwwwww……..” and thankfully, none of my parents or adults caught me encountering those out of context. Also, I discovered Trading cards and saw rare card photos online, and it was fun. I was keeping track on Diamond and Pearl. Due to my unhealthy obsession with the franchise when I was 12, I got GameCube with Pokemon Pikachu covers on the console, on Christmas 2006, and also everyone in my 6th grade and seven grade knows I was into Pokemon. Well, only a few had made fun of me for it, but a lot of them were really fine with it. In fact, a lot of them in my secondary school played them. I’ve seen kids in middle school played Pokemon, so I didn’t feel like I had to hide my interest as much, nor do I feel like hiding my interest on an innocent franchise was a good idea and just let it out, for the most part. In 2007, I played ROM hacks and discovered them. I wanted to play GBA type Johto games to see what they would’ve looked like in GBA style. They were fun, but a lot of ROM hacks at the time were not finished or abandoned. Regardless, they were fun. So from there, I really know more and more about Pokemon. Oh, and in early 2006, as I was playing RSE again, I got my first crush on a character. It was Flannery. Well, she seems pretty attractive, and it was when puberty just started. lol. I also had a small crush on May when I was 12-14, but I always liked Flannery and few other girls.
Afterwards:
Well, I really liked Pokemon stuff. Brock Family and Delicatty Chronicles episode were my favorite episodes, and so as Celebi and Joy, and Luvdisc. My favorite Pokemon was Skitty, and now Pachirisu. Favorite regions were Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. I got Yellow, Emerald, Diamond, Platinum, FireRed, SoulSilver, and Omega Ruby. I got the rest from emulators or just files for flashcards or via Custom Firmware. My favorite Pokemon Seasons are Indigo League and Advance Battle. Favorite Players are Red, Brendan, Lucas, Elio, and Victor. Kris, May, Hilda, Serena, and Gloria. My favorite Pokemon Villains are Giovanni, Maxie, Archie, Lysandre, Guzma, Lusamine, and Piers (not really a villain, but part of Team Yell) XD. Favorite Rivals (non-playable) are Blue, Silver, Gladion, Hop, and Wally. My favorite characters overall are Ash Ketchum, Brock, Misty, Brendan and May (ORAS), Maxie and Archie, Flannery, BEA!!, Steven, Wallace, Olivia, Elesa, Lorelei, Leon, Nessa, Karen, Skyla, N, Piers, Raihan, Guzma, Korrina, Leon, Lusamine, Cynthia, Diantha, and Hilda. I do have a crush on the girls, mainly older ones like Flannery, Bea, and Elesa, and few more. Not only that, but I really started to make Pokemon videos since 2007 as Pokefan531. However, I really start to do them regularly since 2009 with iCarly Parody as Pokemon, PokeTori, and then MMD Iris videos and Randomness since 2013. We’ll get to Iris in a bit. If you asked if I played all Pokemon games, not really. Some spinoffs are finished, and some are not done, while few others I haven’t touched yet, like Pokemon Channel. Pokemon GO was pretty nice to see how it turned out. It was fun seeing the announcements of new Pokemon games, like Black and White, HGSS, ORAS, Sun and Moon, X and Y, and even Sword and Shield.
What’s my least likable things in Pokemon Canon?
Well, I just covered my thoughts on Best Wishes and Iris, and while that post was made for this post, I had to make it as its own separate post as it took quite big enough room. So here is the link:

What didn’t I get into yet?
I haven’t read PokeSpe yet, but a lot of people recommend me to get into the series, and from what I heard, its fandom on the PokeSpe is the most interesting one of all. That’s what I’ve been told. I plan to play Pokken Tournament DX too once I get the game for the Switch. I really need to see Twilight Wings, and I keep forgetting to see it. I already saw Pokemon Generations, and TW is the next one I should watch. The last thing I could think of is seeing all the important episodes of Journeys and see my favorite characters on screen like Bea and Leon. Although I don’t plan on seeing the series regularly as Journeys has its favoritism on Kanto for some reason, but I’ll get into the nostalgia pandering later. I know I’m missing out a couple of things but those are the list I want to see it myself.
Have I ever replay the games or did Nuzlocke?
I recently did my journey of replaying all Pokemon games, with Quality of Like hacks from PokeCommunity and use an emulator. It’s better to play it that way to fast forward the game and to have some a bit challenging gameplay from the QoL hacks by having opponents be higher levels. So far I played Perfect Red, GS 97 hack, Polished Crystal, and Perfect Emerald. Some of them add more trainers and also no trade evolutions and have at least all Pokemon obtainable. I mostly hae few Pokemon in the party with at least one more for HM Slave. I only completed the main story of it, and at times, finish the side quest found from QoL hacks. Next is FireRed, and not sure what to pick. So far, doing this journey is brilliant idea and to revisit the games. I plan on playing Platunim, SoulSilver, BW 1 and 2, X, and Ultra Moon. I already finished Sword couple months ago, and I am already doing Let’s Go Eevee, though pretty slowly at the moment, but not a part of the Pokemon Marathon. As for Nuzlocke, I tried twice, and once in FireRed with FireRed Generations hack, and I stopped playing it when my college course started and forgot about it, and I don’t have the save anymore, and I didn’t finish it or plan to. Also my second time with Polished Crystal four years ago on my other youtube channel, I just lost and decide to switch out from Nuzlocke. It’s much too challenging for me.
So what am I doing right now in Pokemon?
Besides doing my marathon, I make MMD videos of Pokemon regularly. I just put up Randomness 11 as a celebration for the 25th anniversary of the franchise. I still enjoy seeing Pokemon content in discord servers, telling others my favorite characters, and share our headcanons and stories. I made two videos for Pikapika-2000’s randomness video as part of the collab. So I got more interaction with others online since June 2019, but it took off more a year later. From having a Best Friend to two neighborhood friends, to couple of others in my school and college, and to online friends who I started talking with. Yeah, I have a reason why Pokemon is my favorite franchise and fandom, and always seeing its content everyday, moreso than other shows, movies, or games I’m really into, as of now.
What about the bad or concerning side of the fandom?
Well, it’s gonna be a small page of me explaining my thoughts overall, but I just want to list everything that the franchise took me into, and pretty much all positives, so I decide to leave the bad side of the fandom with other fandoms I need to discuss that are more serious and why some other ones are harder for me than Pokemon one. Short, there’s always bad sides of each fandom, but since my friends have told me about this a couple of times, I just need to feel to put my thoughts, and I’m gonna acknowledge it instead of a sad post about it, and explain why it isn’t as surprising for me, so tune in for a small post.
Overall:
Yes, getting into Pokemon since the beginning of 2005 was the biggest impact of my life, with all of the activities I’ve done. It seems to still be giving good quality content despite recent years focusing on quantity. Also thanks for reading the entire post about how I got into Pokemon. Happy Belated Pokemon Day!
[MMD Video] Randomness 11 (Pokemon 25th Anniversary)
Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InqmFxlqx_4
To celebrate the 25th anniversary today, here is Randomness 11 with 16 clips! I now became Pokefan531 as stated for 10K subs video, and formerally Jonicito1994. Tons of funny stuff and also important intro I made. I wasn’t able to do 25 clips on time as I was doing the Christmas Iris video for quite a while and I was doing Valentine’s Day video. Regardless, I still have enough randomness to showcase. Enjoy, and Happy Pokemon Day!
At the end of the video, I put up a couple of channels who have been friends with me, long term subscribers, cool MMD'ers I found, or ones who makes cool MMD Models. The channels also have twitter, instagram, tumblr, or deviantart. Channel shoutouts to Pikapika-2000, CN100eg, Moviemaker X, Former Champion Leon, Pokemon Trainer Elio, David Militello, New3DsSuchti, Ladyruits_Miraculous_MMD, and MegaNep (Deviantart)
