  • My thoughts on Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Remakes

Since last week, DP remakes are announced, as Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl. I somehow knew they were gonna reveal those games, being the remakes that us fans always wanted.

So, as I saw it first, I was happy that they were remaking those games. So when I saw the overworld of the remake, at first, I thought it looked a bit jarring as I didn’t expect they literally gonna remake everything of the game. While I liked the chibi style of the game, it was odd at first glance and we thought it would be almost like SwSh or Let’s GO style, but I still didn’t mind the style and stuff, as long as the gameplay is really solid, and the visuals at least look coherent as opposed to looking worse (Warcraft 3 reforged and blurry mess of FFVI remake). I get why others aren’t happy with that style of look, and I know others want DP remakes to be as good as Link’s Awakening for Switch. It likely will, and I can see a bit different style between the overworlds of both games, but DP remakes should look pleasing anyway, and the Chibi overworlds became a meme quickly so I’m glad it turned out to be laughable rather than most hating it. It can be almost a situation of The Wind Waker’s first reveal where some didn’t like the different style of the game at first, but as I tried finding comments and tweets, I mostly seen either memes or criticizing the chibi style initially, more than seeing people outright hating the games. I am fine with fair criticism. However, I’m glad it was overall well announced and that it was at least liked, and so I’m really happy I predicted that the DP remakes are liked.

Not only that, but what grabbed the attention from BDSP was Legend: Arceus game by Gamefreak. Ok, BDSP are developed by ICEA and Arceus by Gamefreak, and as I see Legends, it looks really good, and it looks like an inspiration of Zelda’s Breath of the Wild. Visually, it looks like an improvement. This looks really interesting like I believe this is what Gamefreak wanted to make for Sword and Shield, nearly. Only if GF was allowed by the Pokemon Company to not rush the game and give it more time. Well this time, Legends is likely gonna be even better. It’s out on next year in early 2022, which seems like a good pick! No main game released for the Holidays, the worst time for games to be released in, and so it showed us that Gamefreak has more room to develop the game and can have nearly everything they wanted according to their plan. We’ll, it does prove that Gamefreak can make the games look good, despite their handling on performance optimization on past games, but still will look a lot pleasing, just like SwSh’s Crown Tundra. Also so far, I like it has a couple of Pokemon that is outside of Kanto from the trailer just to show they should be balancing the pokemon from other generations besides Kanto ones, to have a lot less nostalgia baiting. We see Cyndaquil, Oshawatt, and Rowlet as the starters, and they’re cute. Also seeing them catch Pokemon outside of battle is pretty neat.

So I liked both BDSP and Legends Arceus. BDSP are gonna be exciting. I know it comes out for the holidays, but it’s less of a worry as they’re remakes and handled by ICEA who has a lot more employees than Gamefreak, while Gamefreak is working on the most important Pokemon game to their fullest talents as possible. I know DP remakes are gonna be priced at $60 as Nintendo always does with every Pokemon Switch game, but that will be in my Sword and Shield Part 2 where I’ll explain more over the price of the games and reason why they’re overpriced. As for Legends, that will be an exception granted it has more development room, and so I’m fine with Legends being at $60 as of now. Well, I’m still excited to hear about both games from last week’s Pokemon Present. Now all I see is jokes on BDSP’s chibi models and fanarts of the players from Legends. I would like to either believe the players are Lucas and Dawn, or their ancestors. We’ll see, and it’s a great way to reveal for the 25th anniversary.
